Fused phosphate fertilizer (also known as fused magnesium phosphate, or FMP) from Lao Cai is a base fertilizer for acidic and saline soils, delivering plant-available phosphorus (P₂O₅ ≥ 15%), calcium (CaO ≥ 26%), magnesium (MgO ≥ 14%), and silicon. LAFCO produces it by fusing Lao Cai apatite with serpentinite or olivine in an electric furnace at the Bảo Hà plant, certified to QCVN 01-189:2019/BNNPTNT.
LAFCO is Lao Cai Fused Phosphate Fertilizer JSC, a Vietnamese mineral-and-fertilizer company founded on 15 July 2009, headquartered at No. 348 Nhạc Sơn Street, Lào Cai Ward, Lào Cai Province. LAFCO mines apatite and produces fused phosphate and NPK fertilizers for Vietnamese farmers, domestic distributors, and export partners.
The LAFCO Bảo Hà plant in Lào Cai has a combined capacity of 250,000 tons/year — 200,000 tons/year of fused phosphate fertilizer and 50,000 tons/year of NPK fertilizer. LAFCO's licensed mineral reserves across apatite, serpentinite, and kaolin-feldspar exceed 25 million tons.
Fused phosphate fertilizer suits acidic tropical soils and crops that respond to slow-release phosphorus plus calcium and magnesium — rice, tea, coffee, rubber, sugarcane, pineapple, citrus, and oil palm plantations. Phosphorus releases slowly, which reduces leaching versus single superphosphate on sloping or high-rainfall land.
